The Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is a protected area in the Terai of eastern Nepal covering 175 km² of wetlands in the Sunsari, Saptari and Udayapur Districts. It comprises extensive mudflats, reed beds, and freshwater marshes in the floodplain of the Sapta Kosi River, and ranges in altitude from 75 to 81 m (246 to 266 ft). It was established in 1976 and designated as a Ramsar site in December 1987. It can be accessed from the Mahendra Highway.

Kosi river, which travels across Nepal, India and China is considered to be one of the most sacred rivers in the Hindu mythology. The river, which comes from the major confluence of tributaries from Chatra Gorge offers incredible sites, while giving you the opportunity to discover the mountains and terrain of Nepal. The river basin is surrounded by several tributaries as well as major hill stations. It is also the home for several lakes and glaciers.

Forests of Tinjure, Milke and Jaljale are a must visit if you are fond of tranquility and nature. Dense deciduous shrubs cover and fill the shades of red hues across the 30 km forest in the eastern Nepal. In these forests, when the rhododendron bushes begin to flower, you will notice something breathtaking and exquisite.
